1. Overview

At shell I/O, we want you to be completely satisfied with your learning experience. This Refund Policy outlines the terms and conditions for refunds and cancellations of our Pro subscription plans.

2. Free Trial & Free Tier

shell I/O offers free access to our introductory content (Module 0 of each course). This allows you to experience our terminal-based learning approach before committing to a paid subscription. No payment information is required to access free content.

3. Refund Eligibility

3.1 Within 7 Days of Purchase

We offer a 7-day money-back guarantee for new subscribers. If you're not satisfied with shell I/O Pro within the first 7 days of your initial subscription, you may request a full refund.

3.2 Conditions for Refund

To qualify for a refund:

The request must be made within 7 days of your initial subscription payment
This must be your first subscription to shell I/O Pro
The refund policy applies only to the initial subscription period, not renewals

3.3 Non-Refundable Situations

Refunds are generally not provided for:

Subscription renewals (monthly or annual)
Requests made after the 7-day period
Accounts terminated for violation of our Terms of Service
Partial months of service
Difference in price if you switch from annual to monthly billing

4. Subscription Cancellation

4.1 How to Cancel

You can cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings or by contacting us at hello@shell-io.cloud. Cancellation is effective immediately for billing purposes.

4.2 Access After Cancellation

When you cancel your subscription:

You will retain access to Pro features until the end of your current billing period
Your learning progress and earned badges are preserved
After your subscription expires, you'll revert to the free tier with access to Module 0 content only
You can resubscribe at any time to regain Pro access

4.3 Annual Subscriptions

Annual subscriptions are billed upfront for the entire year. If you cancel an annual subscription:

You will not receive a prorated refund for unused months
You retain access until your subscription period ends
We recommend trying the monthly plan first if you're unsure about committing annually

5. How to Request a Refund

To request a refund within the eligible period:

Email us at hello@shell-io.cloud
Include "Refund Request" in the subject line
Provide your account email address
Briefly explain the reason for your refund request (optional but helpful)

We aim to process refund requests within 5 business days. Refunds will be issued to the original payment method and may take an additional 5-10 business days to appear on your statement, depending on your bank or card issuer.

6. Exceptional Circumstances

We understand that exceptional circumstances may arise. If you believe you have a valid reason for a refund outside of the standard policy, please contact us. We review these requests on a case-by-case basis and reserve the right to grant or deny refunds at our discretion.

Examples of exceptional circumstances we may consider:

Extended service outages preventing access to the platform
Duplicate charges or billing errors
Medical emergencies or other documented hardships

7. Founding Member Pricing

Founding Member subscriptions purchased during our launch period are subject to the same refund policy. The discounted pricing is locked in for as long as you maintain an active subscription. If you cancel and later resubscribe, regular pricing will apply.

8. Currency and Payment Processing

All prices are displayed in South African Rand (ZAR). Payments are processed by Paystack. Refunds will be issued in the same currency as the original payment.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Refund Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Material changes will be communicated via email to active subscribers.
